Headline Story

Headline Story But the headline story right now lies in the perennials. They’re revving their engines. In fact, they’re taxiing for take off. Even at this stage, there’s plenty to partake when you look closely. The Echinacea purpurea ‘Green Jewel’ is coming into flower, with a blossom that impersonates the hue in ‘Envy’ zinnias with frightening similarity.

And, if you explore within the mass of Calamintha nepeta ssp. nepeta, the Eryngium bourgatii that was planted in tandem (a 50/50 mix) is nestled in and blossoming away. Teucrium hircanicum ‘Paradise Delight’ is forming its caterpillar-like buds and Helenium ‘Moerheim Beauty’ is also in heavy bud.

Sedum ‘Sunkissed’ won’t be flowering for awhile, but still, its foliage seems to pucker up and smooch the sky. But it’s the Astilbe ‘Vision in Pink’ that’s holding the fort. It isn’t in full flower yet, but the feathery flower spikes are coloring up to send a blush through the scene above the nemesia and sweet William still in place from the initial influx of annuals. And the actaea and astrantia are still going strong.
