For most gardens, autumn is the non-event of the growing season. Trust me, I’ve been searching in more places than you can imagine throughout the East Coast and beyond, and it’s just not happening this year. The exception is the NYBG Seasonal Walk.
I know, I know – I’ve been drooling over Sedum ‘Matrona’ for months. It’s shameless, really, and I should give it a rest. But I can’t. Now that the peachy/auburn flowerheads have finally opened and are forming a mass of autumnal color, this indomitable
performer has proved its worth all over again.
Indeed, the crew at the NYBG swooped in and planted ‘Matrona’ where the other sedums succumbed. So, in addition to its own spaces, it’s now standing in for some weaker souls. And it’s so divine, in my jaded opinion, the crew could easily go for more – multiplied by three. You’ll have to forgive me – love makes fools of us all.
